Pictures from Carolina’s Birthday Party (part 2)
Here are more pictures from Carolina’s 2nd birthday party:
There’s more to come in Part 3 (if you think I’m not good at being selective, you should have seen the original list of photos…). For now, I’ll leave you with Carolina’s imitation of the yellow tang from Finding Nemo:

They’re here! They’re here!!
Sure, it’s taken more than a month, but we finally managed to get the photos from Carolina’s birthday and pick out our favorites. It will probably take a few posts to get all the best ones up online, so let me start with some scenery:
As you may have guessed, we chose Nemo as the theme for her party. She sure do love fish! But she also loves dressing up as a princess (in case you didn’t know…), so we considered going with The Little Mermaid. Unfortunately, the cake and the decorations for that theme were just too ugly to place near our charming little girl, so Nemo-avec-Princess it was:
Now, what would a fish party be without… fish?
All the Betas found a new home, with a survival kit of care instructions and a week’s worth of food to boot! Unfortunately, they were so popular, none were left for Carolina. Maybe Santa will put a Christmas fish in her stocking this year…
Of course, what Carolina party would be complete without… the “pula-pula”?
That more or less covers the introductions. I’ll leave you with one more picture of sheer cuteness to tide you over until next time:
Carolina and Camila at Parque Lage
A couple of weekends ago, looking for a change of pace and a way to get away from the line of cars trying to enter Rio’s Jardim Botânico, we decided to go to Parque Lage. You might think of it as the rougher, wilder, more artistic version of the botannical gardens nearby. Rather than carefully plotted varieties of worldy vegetation, they have stone and earth trails going through more or less natural patches of Atlantic rainforest. There’s also a lovely old colonial building with an open court yard and big reflecting pool (when it’s not covered in moss) in the center. It’s a great place for brunch, and they host cheap and free classes on various art-related subjects.
Here I am with Carolina and her cousin Camila, standing in the court yard in front of one of the student exhibits:
And here we are in the parking lot having one last fling:
More recent favorites
Since we STILL haven’t gotten any pictures back from the photographer of Carolina’s birthday party (what, he can’t find a photo lab that develops off a memory stick?), I thought I’d treat you with some of my favorite photos of her over the last few months.
Here she is trying out what she calls her “typical dot-com ad” pose:
